New England Spring Expo

New England Spring Expo

After thinking about this a lot, we have come to the decision to not hold NESE this year. Unfortunately, a show the size of NESE makes it impossible to take on without being able to give it 100% commitment, which we just can't do this year.

Thanks to everyone who has helped support NESE for these many years.

How to Hold Your Own Show!

As a service to the community, we will be maintaining the NESE pages as a guide for running your own show. The NESE class list evolved over several years to its current state. The two-day show format with multiple judges for halter has worked well for the last few years.

Limits

20 models per shower on Saturday (Performance), 50 models per shower on Sunday (Halter). Models that are only being entered in Collector's Classes should not be listed on your entry form. Performance Limits: 2 entries per shower per class; 5 classes per model. Halter Limits: 3 entries per shower per class; one class per horse. Substitutions or additions made on showday must be made prior to the start of classes and will be charged $1.00 each.

Collector's Classes

All collector's classes will be held on Sunday. Three honors ribbons and a first place prize will be awarded in each collector's class.

Manufacturer Collector's Class - A group of models by a single manufacturer, this could include all the same mold or all the same color. This class will be judged on the condition, rarity, and value of the models. Presentation will NOT be a primary judging criteria, but exhibitors are encouraged to provide documentation identifying each model.

Theme Collector's Class - Any group of models relating to a common theme, they may or may not be by the same manufacturer. This class will be judged on creativity, presentation, condition of models and scope of collection, but NOT rarity or value. Some examples could be all Family Arabs, all minis, all one breed, all flocked models, all models with riders, etc., etc.

Amateur Owner (AO) Show

Amateur owners customize models for their enjoyment only and do not take on custom orders for others or sell their work by sales list. AO entrants must show only their own work in these classes. If you have been awarded a Grand or Reserve Championship in Halter or Performance at NESE since 1996, or have won a National Championship or Reserve title at the NAN with your own work, then we ask that you not enter this division. NESE reserves the right to determine a shower's eligibility for AO classes. An AO Performance High point will be awarded, based on placings from the regular customized performance show. Any AO qualified performance exhibitor may participate by designating two models meeting AO requirements on their entry form.

Halter Show Format

Each "breed class" (as on the class list) will be judged simultaneously by two different judges: once as Breed Halter (both shows), and once as either Workmanship (Customized) or Collectability (OF Plastic). The two judges will work independently using the following criteria as a guideline:

Breed Halter (CM/AR, OF Plastic, OF China/Resin)

  • General equine conformation
  • Breed specific conformation
  • Realism and breed appropriateness of color

Workmanship (CM/AR)

  • Quality of sculptural work
  • Quality of detail work (mane/tail, coat, overall finishing)
  • Quality of paint job

Collectability (OF Plastic, OF China/Resin)

  • Condition
  • Rarity
  • Quality of factory mold detail and paint job

Two sets of ribbons will be awarded along with two sets of NAN qualification tickets. Ribbons will look different for the two categories. Championships for each show will consist of a Top Ten Breed and Top Ten Workmanship / Collectability, with an overall grand champ and reserve named from each Top Ten. The foal show will also follow the double juding format (foals may NOT enter the regular halter shows). See classlist for championship details.
